Melbourne Family Photographer – The Importance of Family Photos
If you have a sec, and enjoy all things relating to photography, I’d love to steal you and have a quick chat about the importance of family photos while also taking a peak at this beautiful Mummy and Me Mini Session.
If your house decided to catch on fire, or if there was a great flood, or if perhaps heaven forbid, something was to happen to a family member (pet’s included!) what is the first thing you would grab, to hold onto and keep safe?
That’s right, Photos!
Photos bring us back to a time that is otherwise gone.
A time that is paused, captured, and held dear like nothing else can.
When I go and capture a wedding day, you know what makes me choke up the most?
Its the parents speeches.
Its the Father Daughter Dance or the Mother Son Dance.
Its the parents talking about how proud they are of their kids.
I understand being a mother myself, that this innocent time of them being children, is fast and it goes by all too quickly.
When we were kids, childhood felt like an absolute lifetime and we couldn’t wait to grow up.
But time runs thin, and they will be growing up and perhaps getting married before we know it.
We will long for a baby cuddle with them again.
We will yearn for the laughter and giggles and cute moments that we shared with them when they were so young.
We will want to savor these memories of them cuddling into us, them playing and dancing by the light of the window on a Sunday afternoon.
We will miss the way they grabbed our fingers as they walked along side us in the park. The way their rosy little cheeks got grubby after a long, hard playing session in the backyard.
The list goes on.
What will we do to bring us back to these moments? To share with future family members the come into our lives?
We will look through our photos.
Photos that are printed and bound into albums, or framed and hung proudly on the walls of the home we live in. The memories that give us the depth, layers and the fiber of our lives.
What on earth is more important than that, other than the family members themselves?
Your children love YOU exactly as you are right now. The memory of you right now, is something they will cherish for as long as they live.
You are perfect to them no matter what. Just as they are to you.
Photos are apart of our legacy. They are held on to and passed down for years and years and years. Long after our time has passed walking this earth.
They are memories to a time otherwise gone.
They are the tangible moments that your children will hold onto when they need to pause in their own lives and remember you.
The way you showed warmth by your cuddles, the way you rocked them into a calm sleep in the old lounge room chair. The way you threw them up in the air at the beach, and taught them trust as you caught them safely in your loving arms. The way you showed them love, with every smile, with every adoring look, and with every tender touch.
I believe with my whole entire heart, that this rings true, and I also need to practice what I myself, preach.
If you have photos sitting on a phone, I urge you to print them.
If you have photos sitting on a USB, again, print them.
I promise you, that the feeling of receiving your album or your prints is just the same as it was back in the days of waiting for your film to arrive at the print kiosk with your own parents.
For now, hug those babies, take their photos, remember the details, and never let a day go by that leaves you forgetting the day before.
